My grandfather’s sotry

Crafting this documentary about my grandfather’s escape from the Holocaust during my time at Mitchell College became a profound journey that intertwined my academic pursuits with an intensely personal narrative. Studying Communication and Arts, I delved into video production, and a pivotal assignment led me to choose the most significant subject—my grandfather’s harrowing journey.

The meticulous process began with intensive pre-production, involving thorough research and formulating poignant questions for my grandfather. Armed with the school’s Sony XDCAM PXW-Z90V 4K Flash Memory Premium Camcorder and a purchased H1-Zoom recorder, I embarked on capturing his account over a weekend at home. From his birth in Austria to the Kindertransport to England and eventual migration to America, my grandfather recounted a tale of resilience and survival.

The post-production phase was an artful assembly of emotions and memories. I sifted through photographs, meticulously edited footage, and carefully selected music to weave a compelling narrative. The final product resonated profoundly with its audience, as it connected with a story that held immense personal significance for me. This project is not just an academic achievement but a testament to preserving family history and honoring the indomitable spirit that shapes our identity.
